Mayfly

Started on the Lower Water, the river was still coloured and a very strong wind was blowing down stream, it just didn’t look friendly!

While I was tackling up a mayfly hatched, a fish rose and took it – ah that’s better. I battled with the wind all morning and was catching plenty of fish, just nothing above average.

Time to move to the Upper Water – found a sheltered stretch and luckily it had plenty of rising fish along it. I dropped in and spent the next two hours catching some wonderful fish, I even saw a young kingfisher catching mayfly. My best of the day (and season I suspect!) was 19 inches (see below)

Fishing looks good for tomorrow, unfortunately more rain is forecast.

Adrian Simmons shared a rod with his friend and caught some excellent fish – 18.5″, 15.5″, 16″ and 20″
