Mayfly

Just a quick update to let you all know that there are still a few mayfly hatching and the trout are still on the lookout for them, albeit a lot of splashy rises to the fly. Plus the chance of a evening rise, it is a great time to be along the river.

Beware ** UPDATED **

** UPDATE ** There has been a further car broken into, this time a dog walker’s car parked down by Lower Bockhampton bridge, so please take heed if you intend to park there. It is extremely rare that we have any bad news but yesterday afternoon some lowlife broke into one of our members cars …

Early trout and wet feet

My first short session on the river today and it certainly looked stunning. Blackthorn in flower, swallows over the water meadows, grannom over the water, and a few fish quickly on to them. My first trout of the season wasn’t an especially big one, but it was certainly feisty, leaping all over the place and …

April 1st 2019

What a beautiful start to the new season, weather was warm and the river in tip top condition. Although the start of the day was a little chilly to start, with a nasty easterly blowing down the valley. Having tried a sheltered carrier, I then headed over to the main river, it was now warm …

New Members Day 2019

A slightly brighter day today.. A very good new members day yesterday despite the gale force winds and drizzle. We took the new rods over to view the Piddle beats first, then back to the Frome, lower water first then leapfrogging various bits, over to view the river Cerne, finishing up at Gasgoyne Bridge right …

Winters Work Parties

The last of the winters work parties, a good turnout for some gentle fencing work on the upper water, a bonfire to clear up the remainder of the cut willow and a celebratory pasty and doughnut. A huge thank you to all who turned out to help over the last few months, we have achieved …

Affpuddle Beat

The weather for yesterday’s work party could not have been better, glorious warm sunshine. A day’s work party on the delightful Affpuddle beat, a great turn out resulting in a rather productive tree trimming session covering the whole beat apart from a couple of designated sanctuary areas. A few LDO’s hatching for the fish to …

River Cerne

We were blessed with early spring sunshine and warmth for our little work party, I had planned to have another go at the trees under Poundbury but as only two keen helpers showed we quickly headed on to the delightful River Cerne, a tree trim on the whole beat was completed, this little gem looks …

Grayling Social 2019

Perfect weather for today’s grayling social, it may have only been a small turnout but all methods were covered. We had one long trotting, one fly fishing and one fly fishing for pike. The grayling today preferred bait vs a deep nymph and one resident pike eagerly took a fly cast under a willow tree. …
