Whitfield Water 1987-1988

I have been going through the Club’s box of old photographs and found these sequence of images taken by CDR F.B.B Hocking RN R’td for the then Hon.Secretary J.J. Fisher. They show before and during the building of the western by-pass.

Before the by-pass it was a beautiful meadow with the Frome flowing gently through it, a special and tranquil place to fish. As Peter Leatherdale said to me when we first met in 1986 “spring always starts a little earlier here”

Featured image shows the bridge that the road now goes under, with the toll house at Wolfeton in the background.
