Towards the very end of August work will begin on the upper water, from the railway bridge above Whitfield hatches – https://w3w.co/exploring.snowmen.anguished upstream to – Gasgoyne Bridge – https://w3w.co/defeat.salsa.beak
Firstly, the fencing contractor will remove all the existing fence on both the main river and the Wrackle.
The Upper Water was fenced back in 2003, as you know rivers move and fence posts rot and as a consequence any bank work has become rather tricky over the last few seasons.
We will then have a couple of weeks to cut back some willow and repair all our existing flow deflectors, berms etc.
Then the new fence will be installed well away from the river, greatly improving the fishing access and river corridor habitat 😊
If you are fishing up there, please be mindful of tractors, diggers, and machinery, perhaps call me before you fish the Upper Water – 07889 680464
If you would like to lend a hand in the coming weeks please contact John Aplin – River Keeper

The Police have made it quite clear that poaching is a crime in progress covered by the 1968 Theft Act. Members should always call 999 to report it and not phone the keeper. Without a report the police will not be aware of the extent of a problem.

Angling’s representative body, the Angling Trust, has a web site for anglers to record sightings of cormorants, goosanders and mergansers throughout the UK: www.cormorantwatch.com The site is easy to use and will gather vital data to help persuade government of the need for action to protect fisheries.
Invasive plants and animals can carry diseases that kill fish, block waterways and banks, interfering with fishing. They can be small and hard to spot, so are easily spread on damp clothing and equipment.
Protect the environment and fishing you enjoy, by keeping your kit free of invasive plants and animals.
