Shady Pools

I fished yesterday and although conditions weren’t very favourable (bright sunshine and low levels), I managed to find a few fish in the shady pools. I arrived mid afternoon and there was hardly anything hatching although I did see a few late mayfly. Later in the afternoon and into the evening the sedges made an appearance and by late evening several fish were rising.

I ended up with around a dozen fish to 1½ lbs with the best two coming to a very small CDC emerger pattern, including this nicely marked fish. Later in the evening sedge patterns worked well. I did hook one good grayling but unfortunately it threw the hook.

The levels are so low now on all the rivers, hopefully we will get some of the rain that’s been forecasted.
