April 1st 2024

After this winters downpours I was surprised to see one of our River Piddle beats looking so good. Another car arrived with two Members also looking for some fishable water.

Since the temperature was still low, I began with a nymph. My season had officially begun when my leader became taut and I caught a nice fish that was around 14″. A few grannom began to hatch at 11:30, so I quickly switched to a dry fly. Even though I never saw a rise to cast to, it was still nice to be outside and it didn’t rain!

After fishing the top of the Piddle, the others went to the Lower Water, where Ian caught two nice 15-inch trout also using a nymph. They said there were no rising fish, but there was plenty of grannom.

Rob cast to two rising trout, but failed to connect either of them, but at least he was there.

As members venture out, the rivers are still very full, the flow very strong and some access points to the water meadows will be somewhat hazardous, so please take care, also please avoid parking off road until things properly dry up.
