River Piddle to start the new season, it is in fine condition, plenty of water and healthy weed growth, but opening day again blighted by a cool easterly blowing up the valley.

No signs of any grannom, on went a small nymph and landed two beautiful Piddle trout in the first straight. Time to switch to the dry and look for some rising fish.

It was very quiet and no fly or rising fish seen, beautiful walk in the sun though!

Popped over to the Affpuddle Beat, plenty of grannom hatching here, but the trout still in their winter slumber and couldn’t be bothered with the hatching flies.

Trevor P also caught one on a nymph and actually saw a fish rise – anyone else venture out today?
